HandUp Global Goods Office Design

Office Design // The House of Figs

Now that I’ve shared with you about this nonprofit that has stolen my heart (missed that post?  read about it here) I wanted to show you how HandUp Global Good’s office design came together.  Here’s the original design board I created for it.

HUGG Design Board

I was going for a modern global feeling that was also light and bright.  We did make a few changes along the way that worked well for the function of the office, but I was so pleased to see how it turned out.

Please take note of the amazing original old wooden floors!  How gorgeous are those??  The gallery wall above the desks includes functional pieces like a dry erase board and a cork board but also some inspiration like this map of Haiti and a few prints from Lindsay Letters.  One says “Live Creatively” and another one “Be Brave.”

This company is giving sustainable work to former street children in Haiti that are aging out of an orphanage.  The young men are skilled artisans being paid a fair wage to make beautiful bracelets.  Read more about it (and even see a short video if you want!) on their website here.HUGG Office // The House of Figs

Everyone I know who works stateside for HUGG is incredibly passionate and has been to Haiti several times.  They know these hard working young men personally and have come to love them dearly.

Its been a huge blessing to me to discover this company and I knew I wanted to be involved somehow.

They don’t currently have necklaces for sale, but I have it on good authority that there are more beautiful things coming… check out this gorgeousness they have on display!

The Montgomery House Office

The Montgomery House - Office Small_0 WMLast week I shared the above picture as kind of a teaser to this home office in the Montgomery House.  Today I’m sharing the rest!  This may be one of my favorite rooms in the house.  It is not just for show either, it is a hard working office, as the couple own a landscaping business and several days a week she is running it from home.  In fact while we were there taking these photos it was during the spring, their busy season, and she took a million phone calls and since she couldn’t be in her office, she was moving around the house with her laptop as we moved in and out of her way.  Sorry, Kay! 😉

The Montgomery House - Office Small_1 WMOn the left wall when you walk in is this big beautiful galvanized wall calendar- quite the event hanging this thing, but it sure turned out beautiful!  And useful!

The Montgomery House - Office Small_3 WMThere’s also a little seating area with a laptop table from Ballard Designs to the right of the desk.  Perfect spot for morning coffee.  We styled it like this for the photo shoot, but I love having little accent tables like this just empty and waiting for a drink to be set down, a book to be read, etc.  Blank space can be such a breath of fresh air and an open invitation to rest, read, relax.

Bookshelf styling is one of my favorite things to do.  It is a little bit of a science and a little bit of an art.  We used some of their own family photos, some fun HomeGoods finds, plants, and a few baskets and boxes for storage.

The Montgomery House - Office Small_4 WMHow about that bicycle and the sweet little pig below?  I love to have a few decorative elements like that, but not too many!  Like I said, its a hardworking office, and these builtins needed to work for them, not just hold pretty things.  But the purposeful things can be beautiful as well, like the wooden storage box next to the pig, just waiting to hold post-it notes, stamps, push pins, or whatever need may arise.  You know when you just need a place to put some stuff?  Why not a pretty box? Useful yet nice to look at, too. Beauty and purpose.

Thanks so much for reading!  I’m winding up the Montgomery House series, with just a couple more rooms to share with you.

Also, I’m letting you in on a little secret- I’ve got some BIG updates to the blog happening behind the scenes!!!  I am so excited about it and have been working hard, learning about stuff like coding, widgets, and plug-ins!  Wow, its been crazy because that is SO not my thing, but hoping to unveil the new site sometime this summer.  My husband does all the photography for this site (well except for when I use my iPhone) but he is first of all extremely talented videographer/cinematographer.  We are planning some exclusive videos for email subscribers and I am super excited about offering that to all of you.

Thanks for all the support and comments and sharing- it is a scary thing to put myself out there- my designs and my words.  The encouragement and support I’ve received have given me a soft place to land and I’m so grateful to each one of you.  Looking forward to sharing my new site with you soon and continuing this journey together.

xoxo,

Bethany

A Colorful Home Office {After}

The other day I shared with you the moodboard and the before pictures of this family of five’s home office and today I am so excited to share with you the results!

The House of Figs Office
Here you can see how the room flows from the living room. Beyond just the office area, we also did the map/gallery wall just past the sofa seen in the picture below. We used maps and pictures from places they have traveled.Room-3 Room-5 Room-7 Room-8 Room-10 Room-11 Room-12 Room-13

One more of the whole space, because I just love all the color and light here.  Its pretty, fun, and functional now and I just love how it turned out! Room-3

By the way, I told you in the last post that this client is a talented photographer.  Check out her site at www.littlelambphoto.com if you are local and looking for someone who does great work! You might even find my family’s portraits there. 🙂

Thanks for reading!

A Colorful Home Office

The House of Figs Office MB This room was recently added on to the home of this family of five as an office and sort of play/extra room.  Its a great little space with beautiful built-ins and lovely natural light from some french doors which unfortunately I did not capture in these before pictures. The family wanted it to be functional and organized but also stylish since it can be seen almost as soon as you walk into the house.  They love color and this add-on needed to flow well from the living room it is connected to.  A few other things you should know about this family- they have a four year old, two year old twins, have done a lot of world traveling, and the wife (my friend) is an extremely talented photographer! IMG_7749 They already had this great chair and knew they wanted to use the storage for some decorative things and a lot of their kids’ books.  There were a few little blank walls and while her kids do play in here since it is just off the living room, we didn’t want to go too “play-room” with it, and decided for a more family friendly feeling.  I’ll be back later this week to show you the results, I think it turned out great.IMG_7750 IMG_7753 Thanks for reading, hope you have a lovely Monday!

The Montgomery House Office

Happy Monday! Today I’m sharing a little more of the house I’ve been working on for over a year- my first big project and a huge one at that.  Its really a dream come true for me (not to mention, for the amazing homeowners who have put their trust and faith in me!). The floors went in on this beauty last week and the family will be moving in this week, so exciting!

Here’s the office moodboard. The wall color is Dover Gray that I talked about last week. The husband is a hunter so we had to have a space for his antlers!

And now here is the real thing, just after the floor installation. Those built ins are beautiful and painted in White Dove.

Here’s a view looking from the office into the foyer (before the floors went in, obviously). I love the doorway moldings and little transom over the hallway entrance! The color in the foyer (and most of the rest of the house) is my ever-favorite Silver Dollar by Olympic.

Thanks for reading, have a great Monday!
