A Nursery in Lights & Darks

Sharing my sweet baby number three’s nursery today…

Books are probably my favorite thing to decorate with. You’ll see I use them in most rooms I do. It’s an easy way to add color that’s not matchy-matchy and they just make a room feel alive- not like a showroom house, like a real home where people read and learn and live!

We DIYed the pelmets and hung Ikea curtains with blackout liners behind them. It’s been the perfect solution for those big windows and arches over the windows. This room gets DARK during the day.

The House of Figs- nursery The song 10,000 Reasons, by Matt Redman, was really special to us around the time I was pregnant with Will. It felt like the perfect thing for over his crib. And I wanted it to be a reminder for me when those inevitable early mornings and sleepless nights came… “whatever may pass and whatever lies before me, let me be singing…”

Will's Room_5 The ship painting below I found in a little antique store in downtown Houston. It was painted by the dealer’s father and there’s a little story about him taped to the back of the canvas!  The Lego W was made by Will’s big cousin.

Will's Room_3 Will's Room_2 The bedding is old and from my seven year old’s nursery but the sheet is new from Pottery Barn.

I removed the other more useful but not so pretty items for the pictures- like the monitor, the sound machine (those things are heaven-sent!!), the diaper genie, and the multitude of pacifiers everywhere, but of course we have those things too.  Below, you can find a list of more resources.

The House of Figs- nursery Paint color: Dover Gray, Dresser : Ikea Hemnes, Rocker: Pottery Barn Kids, Pouf: Amazon, Rusty W: Found in Round Top, TX, Shelves & book racks: Ikea, Lamp: Hobby Lobby, Curtains: Ikea, Pelmets: DIY with black linen from JoAnn’s Fabric, Canvas Art: DIY of some of our favorite song lyrics, Rug: Joss & Main, Round table & Basket: Found at HomeGoods

Thanks for reading! Happy Weekend!

Enjoying your website! Have a random question: what do you think of the PB rocker? I had a different glider with my first and I wasn’t a fan….thinking these may be more comfy?

Hi! I had a hand me down glider with my first two so this was a total splurge with my number three. 🙂 I have to say, it took me a while to get used to it. It definitely doesn’t rock as easily as those gliders do, its a little more “work” I guess. It definitely needs an ottoman that you can push back on. And it was pretty stiff at first, took some time to break it in. But now that I’m used to it, I LOVE it! So much prettier to look at too than my old glider was. 😉 Thanks so much for reading!!

Hi! I found your blog through Centsational Girl and love your story and your house. And then I saw the canvas above your son’s crib! LOVE that song! Did you make it by painting the letters on canvas or got them somewhere?? 🙂

Thank you so much!! Yes, we planned it beforehand with pencil and then just painted it right on. One of my favorite songs of all time. Thanks so much for your comment.
